3/8/2008 Year of Norweigian Black Metal08年的澳洲金属演出市场注定属于挪威黑金属。经历了前几年瑞典，芬兰乐队主宰市场的时期，随着Mayhem刚刚宣布5月份来澳洲巡演，加上早已订好的3月份Immortal 的演出，2支黑金属流派的传奇始祖级乐队的到来足以让08年成为令人难忘的一年。 Mayhem和Immortal都是我在刚刚接触极端音乐的时候听到的名字，对于他们我是久仰大名，一直以为只有去Wacken才能看到他们的现场，没想到他们今年能来澳洲，这个机会我当然不能错过。其实他们的影响力和号召力何止是对于我，他们可以说是整个黑金属的领军乐队。Mayhem成军已有20多年，他们和早期的Emporer, Burzum把Black metal从Death Metal这个sub genre发展到今天极端音乐里举足轻重的流派，不知影响了多少后继乐队。Mayhem原主唱Dead91年饮弹自尽，原吉他手曾经是黑金属流派领军人物的Euronymous 被Burzum的Varg刺死，原因至今众说纷纭，乐队成员早期的异教信仰以及与其他挪威黑金属乐队一起焚烧挪威木教堂也成为极端乐坛无人不知的故事。现在的Mahem已经脱离了当年淳朴的撒旦主义倾向，被认为是极端金属音乐界最出色的鼓手之一的 Hellhammer成为新Mayhem的灵魂人物。 乐队现在的lineup: Attila Csihar - vocals 这会是Mayhem第二次踏上澳洲的土地，也是第一次在Attila作为主唱来澳洲表演。 售票网址： Immortal的历史也有十多年， 乐队曾在03年宣布解散，时隔三年后他们重新建队，并宣布今年会有新专辑发行。与Mayhem相比，Immortal的曲风更快更猛烈，近年来他们加入了德国Thrash Metal的风格，新的作品听起来更加旋律化。这将是Immortal第一次来澳洲演出。Immmortal一向以他们的舞台表演而出名，这次在澳洲演出肯定也少不了喷火，尸面化妆，钉饰，非常值得期待，听着就觉得这会是一场非常火爆的演出，估计我在前排撑不住太久就得往后闪了 Immortal lineup: Abbath Doom Occulta – vocals, guitar 售票网址： 这次Immortal和Mayhem不约而同选择Metro作为演出场地，我上一次在Metro看演出还是Nightwish05年在Tarja离队前最后的演出，也是迄今最美好的现场回忆，比今年新Nightwish在Enmore Theatre强多了。有些意外的是Mayhem的票价比Immortal便宜。 3/18/2007 Two New ShowsTwo new excited shows have been announced:

9/24/2006 R.I.P Sabine (1977-2006)When I check on the news of Liechtenstein gothic metaller Elis' official website, there's a big shocking one. The lead female vocal Sabine Duenser left us forever in July.
"During the bands rehearsal on Friday the 07.07.06, Sabine suffered a cerebral haemorrhage from which she died a day later at the hospital."
Elis is an emerging band under label Napalm Records, Sabine is the major part of their success, It's a great sorrow to see her deceased. The world loast a talented and beautiful female artist. Like most people, I know Liv from Theatre of Tragedy, they are the original and the best doom gothic metal band, blend with death/black male vocal and heavenly female vocal. It's them lead me into metal. Even in their 4th and 5th album Musique and Assembly, they changed to electrical, I still love them. Live split with ToT after Assembly, formed her own band Leave's Eyes, signed with Napalm Records, here she starts to build music upon her mind. She also has two solo albums. From ToT to Leave's Eyes, to her solo, I've got them all and love them all. Seeing her live is my dream, but I never thought they could come down under. They are a small band in a small label. So when a month ago, when I first saw the flyer that they will play in Manning Bar, Sydney Uni, I couldn't believe my eyes. I bought ticket the first day on sale.
Manning is a perfect venue for them, In Flames and Dark Tranquillity's show in Manning all are success. But the crowd was small, I knew won't be too many people to come, but still under my estimate, Atrocity must be very disappointed that only few people in front, most standing at the back no matter what Alex says. But the small turn up gave me the chance to stand closer to the band, and can take better pictures and videos.
But when Liv Kristine changed her costume in Vinland Saga album, Leave's Eyes showed up, things changed, most people came to front, and made much bigger noise. Can't believe Liv's already married and gave birth to her son, she's still beautiful and fit, her voice is sweet as ten years ago. It's my first time so standing in the first row, so close to the band, even no securies in front of me, Liv knows how to live, her eye contact and hand shaking really turns crowd up, I shaked her hand twice!!! After call back, they performed Norwegian Lovesong and Elegy, two big hits, and then finished the great show.
It's a hell of night, a night to remember forever. And Liv Kristine will always be my favourite female artist. 8/21/2006 2:37With 6.5 main characters in the movie, you won't feel the story is separated, which shows the talent of the director. I'm totally surprised that is film is shot in Adelaide by a 21-year-old debut writer/director Murali K. Thalluri.
In this movie, you have drugs, homosexual, love, rape, teenager preganency, discrimination on disabled person, all issues you can face in a contemporary high school. Every kid has their own problems, no one seems to be happy, and anyone could commit suicide, but in the end, the one looks the most normal died.
This is the best Australian movie I saw, and probably the best this year, it's way better than most crap Hollywood movies. Like Filmink said:"2:37 is sure to be one of the year's most controversial and unforgettable films." Strongly recommended.
★★★★★ 8/8/2006 Tour NewsSydney metallers and goths, it's been a long waiting for some really excited tour news. Just like this god damn long, cold, rainy winter, so annoying. Nothing worth seeing after Opeth in April, now spring is coming, and bands are coming too, many of which are big names I've been waiting for years.

I'm going to Danzig, Dark Tranquillity and Leave's Eyes for sure, especially Liv Kristine, she's like a goth mother of gothic metal, she and Theatre of Tragedy are the first and most important gothic metal band ever, I would die to see her, even though she's married and got a baby already. Maybe I'll go to the Under the Blue Moon to see Virgin Black. Nitzer Ebb is not my type. Swedish all-girl metal/punk new comer, Crucified Barbara, plays on my birthday, maybe I'll go as a birthday gift for myself.

For me, listen to black metal is a routine, not have enough time to read the book I bought half year ago. And I still haven't got enough courage to get the pentagram tatoo. The classic movies mentioned above all watched. All I can do now is find a horror movie in my harddisc to kill the rest of the day. The real benefit I can get from this day is Post-Mortem Records (101 Enmore Rd, Enmore NSW) has a metal stocktake sale, I can finally get some metal and gothic bargain this weekend.

All hail Satan! 4/29/2006 Game over, but we will come back again.0:3 at Stanford Bridge. Chelsea enjoys back-to-back English Premier League champions after defeated Man Utd, the most successful team in EPL history.
We didn't play very well today, lost first goal in 5th mins, and lost 2 great chances to score in the first half. Ronaldo is disappointing, Rooney is trying very very very hard, but unfortunately goaless but get seriously injured in 80th mins. Just like when we lost game to Liverpool in FA Cup, we also lost Alan Smith. Rooney seemed so painful, he is strong as a bull, it is not a good sign, hope he will be recovered soon to catch up World Cup, that's all that matters now for whole England, even Chelsea fans don't want to see Rooney get off injured.
For the whole season, it was not easy for United, we lost so many players due to injury, lost some games unexpected. But we can see that Rooney and Ronaldo are getting better and better, other yongsers also showed their potenial, I'm still confident about the come back in the next season. Not only a League Cup champion, but most important of all, we have to win the league title back, we missed it so much. EPL is so blue at the moment, it needs Red back, United's red only! And ofcourese Champions League and FA Cup as well if possible.

You are part of my life, my faith. 4/24/2006 《霍元甲》观后很久没看中文电影了，刚看完朋友借给我的《霍元甲》(Fearless)，不吐不快。这也成为我blog里面第一篇中文日至。
看了不少网上的影评，比较有同感的是这部电影李连杰倾注了很大的心血，他借霍元甲之口说出了自己的思想和对武术的总结。在袁和平的武术指导下，几场武戏都排得有模有样，让我们看到中华武术的精髓。但前半段表现年轻时的霍元甲少年张狂的剧情戏，明显看出李连杰的演技不足，表现得很吃力，很做作的感觉。让人感觉像有点没大脑的黑帮老大。但后半段表现霍元甲领悟到武术精髓就完全游刃有余，说到底因为这是李连杰一贯的风格，演自己还是绰绰有余的。再说导演于仁泰，当初看到由于仁泰执导这部电影就捏了一把汗，他拍好莱坞B级小制作恐怖片还算合格，但知道一部类似霍元甲这样的疑似史诗片还是功力不够。一些细节描写都欠妥当，如霍元甲与秦爷的矛盾起源有些牵强；霍元甲在世外桃源般的乡村完成性格的转变过于虚无缥缈。另外一切引起大众争议的对史实的改编，在次就不再重复。至于影片的说教，在我看来不是什么问题，电影还是宣扬了“精武精神”等爱国思想。
再给电影找个碴：霍元甲在天津长大，天天要争“津门第一”，但电影里除了那个说“霍元甲，你嘛时候成津门第一？就在今天，就在今天。”的乞丐外，没有一个说天津话，甚至有人还操着京腔，听着十分不爽。在比舞台所在的大胡同（看着很亲切），天津老城区的人说话津味最浓。李连杰甚至将天津说成了天京！在南方农村（云南？）和上海，人人也都说普通话。类似的地方，电影在细节方面都没有做足。
但总的来说，这还是部值得一看的电影，虽然没有当年《少林寺》带来的震撼，但作为近年来为数不多的武术电影，还是有可取之处的。电影的海报很是精美，达到国际水准，在国产电影中绝对是出类拔萃的。不过个人认为周星驰的《功夫》(Kong Fu Hustle)，以夸张的手法描述的电影更让人过目不忘。
PS:一块拿来的还有陈凯歌的《无极》，真不是一个烂可以形容的，不知道那创纪录的投资都被拿了回扣还是真就这样打了水漂，电影的特技到情节到演员演技都没有一点可取的。还不如《一个馒头引起的血案》能博人一乐。强烈建议没有看过这部电影的朋友不要浪费时间，有空下一个馒头血案自娱自乐一下还可以。

Lucky I bought it when tickets start on sale.
The supporting band is doom metaler The Eternal from Melb, I've seen them in Excelsior Hotel, Surry Hills before. Maybe they are the best doom metal band in Australia. After their playing, there were 40 mins impatience waiting. There's an interesting scene, the instrument were covered by a sheet as usual, but on the sheet it was full of bras and panties, I think they were female fans' gift to H.I.M.
H.I.M. finally showed up. Screaming were so loud that beat any concert I ever been to, maybe because a lot of teenager inside, and vocalist Valo is attracted to girls. The stage is pretty, all candles light up when the band showed. Of course, they played all their classic songs and lastest ones. From the time H.I.M. showed up on stage, there were people keep returning from the front row, they seemed so exhausted and faint. You can also see many Asians, not like other concerts.
It was interested to see that those weird chicks and boys picked up by their traditonal parents after the show, it reminds me they are still kids, no matter how hot or how strange look they are.

Nobody loves no one... 3/15/2006 Say goodbye to...New life starts means old life ends.
Cinque, the place accompied me for almost 2 years, the only job I had in Australia, the longest job I ever did. Now it's time to say goodbye. It's a shitty job, dirty, hard work, low payment, but there're still good memorys, made many friends and earned enough money for living.
I also cut my hair, to be super short now. I raised my hair since I came to Australia, because I like gohtic and metal music, it's good to have long hair, and I really wanna know what I look like with long hair. Now for the new job, I decided to shave it off, it's a hard decision. I looked so different after haircut. Some people say it's better, but Ryan said no. I'm sure some other friends will say longer is better.
At last, I have to say goodbye to my student identity. My student card will expire at the end of this month. I will not be a student anymore, maybe forever, but doesn't mean I don't have to study in the future. It means no lectures, no assignments, no exams, but also means no classmates, no holidays, no student discount. It means I'm totally grown up now.
Everything is just a beginning, have a long way to go. No time shall be wasted. 3/8/2006 A New BeginningIt's a good day today, sunny and not too hot, typical Sydney weather. And I got two good news.
The Permenant Residency I applied on 16/1 finally got a response, and it is approved yesterday. When i check the online application status the day before yesterday, everything stayed the same as the first day 16/1. And this morning I got two emails from yesterday, one is case officer allocated and the other is application approved. So I went to DIMIA Sydney this morning, now I've got indefinite stay permit in Australia sticker on my passport.
The other thing is NJ called me this afternoon tell me I can start the Payroll Officer next Monday, but due to Cinque I will start next Thursday. Although it is only four days a week casual job, it's my first accounting job. Say thank you very much to Joe (aka Jungle).
I have been to Australia for two years since last Friday, and now time for a new strart. 1/4/2006 2005 Movies and TV reviewIt is already 2006, unbelievable fast, the year of FIFA Worldcup and for myself a very important year. But here I only want to review movies and TV series in 2005, give my favourite and most disappointed ones, based on movies I watched last year. Favourite movie: Sin City: Don't have to say too much, I already reviewed in movies section. Other candidate: Mysterious Skin: A touching and wicked child abuse story, still feel shocked by now. King Kong: Size does matter. Peter Jackson continued his genius in this blockbuster remake, like LOTR trilogy, King Kong has three part, I love the second part, the Two Groups, King Kong vs Dinosaur is the best action scene in couple of years. But the first hour is too long and boring, if it could be cut to half an hour, the movie could be better. There are some bugs in the story. The ship crew can't find King Kong, even many people died, but Adrian Brody himself find King Kong easily. Big bats don't have fun with King Kong until Adrian comes. - Viona Ielegems 10/3/2005 Are You Dead Yet?They are young, they are fast, they are powerful, they are hot, they are from Finland. They are Children of Bodom (COB).
Their first show sold out in 1 week, then they added another one, still sold out quickly. I know I can expect more from this gig. Doors open at 8pm, I went their 40 mins before that, bust sill there were at least 300 people in front of me. It was my first time been to the Gaelic Club, it has two levels, people under 18 have to go upstairs, because the bar located in first level. I’m so lucky to be over 18 that I can find a position very close to the stage, just second row! Cool! But poor little ids can only stand upstairs far away from the stage. When the special guests Pathogen came out, they were just less than 1 m in front of me, I could take very close look at everyone. Pathogen is good, melodic black, we warmed up enough for COB. During the break, no one moves, no one go to the bar for drinks, everyone in the front knows u can’t get back once you out. Finally, they came out. The vocalist is shorter but better looking than I thought. COB, fast and powerful like you can get in album, everyone’s totally into their music. I want to jump, but not enough space, everyone behind me pushed me forward, I want to stand still, but no way to do that either. It was even hard to take some photos even if I got the best position. When people packed together, the temperature is over 40 degree, I could hardly breath, more and more people from the back want to get close to the stage, I’m too slim compared to many of them, and many people used to near me disappeared, especially girls and short guys. And people kept diving, apparently it was dangerous, I was kicked and hit several times. After half an hour, I couldn’t hold on, I was pushed back to 5th row already, but I have to move back further. Found myself a way to the middle, it was totally different from the front, people not push each other, just shake their heads gently. I found a girl watching crying, too excited to see COB live. It was COB’s second Sydney’s show, I don’t know what happened the day before, I was totally exhausted after the show, neck hurts so much, legs sour, but can’t see any trace that COB just another show one night before. Are you dead yet? -- Children of Bodom 9/25/2005 Bleed Like GarbageLisa said she didn’t expect much from Garbage show, neither did I, and we didn’t listen to their latest album Bleed Like Me much. Anyway we went to the show together, first time not going by myself.
Friday night show was in Hordern Pavilion, 8pm the supporting band Silo (sounds like that) appeared on stage on time, but they were really disappointing, we wondered what was going on, only half an hour, and the band is not good enough to support a band like Garbage. It gave us half an hour break, never had a long break like this before. Lisa said usually there were two supporting bands at least in Sweden, and the main bands usually won’t show up until 11.
Around 9, the ground was getting crowded, but still not very packed. There was a huge variety of audiences, age from 15 to 50, and you can see people dressed up very different, some normal, some punk, some goth, some long haired metalheads. Garbage showed up! Shirley Manson dressed in T and shorts, and her hair style just like in the video “The World Is Not Enough” (unfortunately, she didn’t sing this song). After 3 songs in a row, Shirley used her Scottish accent say hello to Sydney, and I realized the first time they been here is ten years ago. I can’t believe she is almost 40 now, she’s so energetic on stage just like a young rock star. In the middle of the gig, Shirley announced that not matter what newspaper’s rumor is, Garbage is not breaking up, they will bring us a whole new album. Just before I go to the gig, Ryan told me maybe it was the last chance to see Garbage. Now the rumor was cleared. After the announcement, Garbage played almost all their classic songs. It even had a request time for audience, but one guy asked a song even Shirley can’t remember, even after she looked up their lyric book. After one call back, the show finished. We both feel excited about it, beyond our exception.
It was only 11pm, USyd’s Band Comp was not over yet, so we pick up her flatmate, “the most natural blond girl you can imagine” Sara, went to Manning afterwards. Hannah and Bethan were already pissed, the last band was on stage, they were quite entertaining, I thought they could won some prize but they didn’t. It was the final announcement time, the girls had made miracle already, no one ask for more and nothing can surprise anymore. The judge finally announced Kentucky Sun is the 3rd won $500 prize. But many people say the 2nd band is not as good as them. But no matter what the judges thought, they are my Number 1.

9/19/2005 Blue Moon RisingBlue Moon: n. an ideal time to do something you have never done before.
If you were in Newtown/Enmore last Saturday, you must have seen many gorgeous people dressed up in black on King St, Enmore Rd, everywhere around Enmore Rd (you may think they are freaks, whatever, I’m one of them). It was Under the Blue Moon festival, and it is bigger and better than last year’s. This is only the second UtBM festival, but the event is already become Sydney goths’ must go event. I am lucky enough to catch last year’s first goth festival in Sydney, and of course I won’t miss this year’s.
There were so many activities on Saturday 17 September, many of them starts at the same time. After I finished work and get changed, it was almost 8pm. So I hurried up to Enmore Rd, first thing first, shopping. UtBM’s first aim to promote goth shops on Enmore Rd, to prove it’s the gothic heart of Sydney. This year, more shops get involved, including my beloved Revolution Records Newtown (it will change name soon and maybe move to a new address) and jeweler shop, Le Cabinet des Curiosities, the only place I can find Alchemy Gothic and many beautiful gothic home ware in Sydney. Both 2 shops offer 20% off everything. I spent almost all cash I carried, (see photos section for details) with hand full I had to go back home to send these thing back, thanks for the walking distance back to my new home, I don’t have to go to the club with a big shopping bag.
It was 9.30pm when I get into @Newtown, Madam P’s Breathtaking Fashion/Hair Show just started. Level one of @Newtown was so packed that I can hardly find a back row place to sit down, and sadly I couldn’t take good quality photos from the stage, that’s why in photo section not many good photos, shame on me, I should be there earlier. It is my No. 1 event during the festival, Gallery Serpentine, In Visible Light, The Wild One, Doppelganger Hair, Le Cabinet des Curiosities all participated, showed what is fashion in our goth community. From Victorian style to cyber punk, you can see all popular things among goths, corset, PVC, extensions, piercing… But I still prefer Victorian style. After the fashion show, I stayed in level one with Ascension DJs from uni’s Dark Alt Society. I met some new gothic chicks, but I forgot to take some photos, what have I done? It seems like I missed so many things in the festival that I have to wait another year. Damn.
Every goth walking on the street is fabulous, I am proud to be one of them and I love Newtown/Enmore, Australia. 9/8/2005 Kentucky Sun went through to USyd's Band Comp 2005 Final!Before it happens, no one believe Kentucky Sun (Hannah, Bethan and Hannah's brother Alex) can get through from first round, quarter final, semi-final to 23 Sept's ground final. They are good indeed, but still it is a big surprise for everyone, even for themselves. Unfortunately, I only watched their debut, and missed second and yesterday's semi, due to f**king Auditing classes on Wed 6-9, but I caught the moment the judge announce the 3 bands out of 7 who can get into the final, their name was the last to be announced, what a shock! Unbelievable. We all thought it was just a chance for friends get together, the competition was so tough, many good bands beside them, but they won! At first there're at least 50 bands in the Band Comp, only 6 can get into the final, and they are one of them, and they are my good friends! Bad news is maybe I have to miss their final on 23 Sept, because I already bought Garbage's concert ticket, at the same day, similar time. Here all my best wishes for them, it doesn't matter they can win or not, just hope they can play good, maybe they can give us another surprise, who knows? So anyone can go to Friday 23 Sept's Band Comp Ground Final starts at 6.30 @ Manning Bar, USyd, pls remember their name "Kentucky Sun" and cheer for them, they won't let you down.
Fingure cross for them, my friends. 8/23/2005 Children of Bodom adds another showA poster in the latest Drum Media said that the 2 Oct concert of Children of Bodom has already sold out! And due to the unpredicted demand, they add another one, 1 Oct, tickets on sale this week. I don't know they are so popular here, it could be a good news for me, the concert gonna be crazy, I have to go early to get a good position.
So anyone who just saw the gig news, be quick to ticket outlet to get the last chance to see COB! |
